Good slogans — or taglines, as they are also referred to in the advertising business - are a critical element in brand building. Just take a moment to look at the ones on our welcome page in the "What Inspires Us" section. They all became famous helping give their respective brands a voice in the marketplace. No matter what your business does, your slogan speaks volumes and creates a first impression.
If your name, logo and slogan are all working together as they should, they become an ad in and of themselves. A memorable slogan can be your best and least expensive form of advertising.
This little detail is often overlooked when companies create their brand. A logo is often one of the first things they take care of because a logo is more visual and more noticeable to the average person. Don't get us wrong, an engaging logo is important (we do that too- check here), but a well-crafted tagline has the power to more clearly describe your organization, support your value proposition, and help differentiate you from your competition. A logo gives your brand its look and feel, a slogan gives it a voice.
Other companies that actually do have a slogan fail to capitalize on this branding device. While "Service Is Our Number One Priority!" or "Your Trusted Advisor" may be admirable attributes, they are not at all compelling or differentiating. They simply become noise to the average consumer.
Does your organization currently have a tagline? If so: Is it memorable? Is it original? Does it make a confident statement? Is it easy to say? Does it allow your prospects to recall your name? Does it communicate your brand essence or position? Will it help your company to achieve its mission?
Answering yes to most, or all of these questions is essential to the creation of a winning slogan. It's no small task by any means, but well worth the effort.

On Slogans
A great overview on the importance of company slogans and what makes a good one. An interesting quote from the article: “A story in USA Today said, ‘Among the slogans for 22 of the nation's biggest marketers, only six were recognized by more than 10 percent of those surveyed.’ There were three slogans that scored almost zero recognition: Circuit City's ‘We're with you,’ Kmart's ‘The stuff of life;’ and Staples' ‘That was easy.’
